This painting is about the cycle of creation and destruction. Trihydrogen cations are the most abundant molecular ions in interstellar space. Created by collisions with cosmic rays exciting hydrogen molecules into a positive ionic charge. In their destruction create water, carbon, and photons, aiding newly formed stars in their cooling process. The simplest element in the universe and one of the most powerful!

Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg Poster Rock Hamburg, Germany Opens August 21, 2015 Runs through January 03, 2016
The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MKG) is putting on the first show of its kind in Europe – an exhibition of concert posters including around 140 silkscreens and an array of smaller prints. The limited stock of autographed sheets made by artists with a love of music have become internationally sought-after collector’s items. The first so-called “gig posters” appeared in the 1980s in response to the commercialization of the music industry. Rock, punk, heavy metal and grunge, which all started out as protest movements, were marketed by the record labels using glossy campaigns designed to appeal to a broad public. By contrast, young artists like Frank Kozik interpreted the music and performances of their favourite bands, such as Sonic Youth or The Melvins, with motifs that were bold, colourful and often ironic.
The posters – produced in small editions and always with the bands’ consent – were primarily intended for the fans. This gave rise to an international movement, which has been showcased on a shared website, gigposters.com, since 2000 and was the genesis of the Flatstock Poster Convention. The screen printers meet on the sidelines of major rock festivals and present their work. The first Flatstock Poster Convention took place in San Francisco in 2002, and in the meantime Austin – which hosts the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW), the scene’s biggest annual get-together – has emerged as a new centre for the movement. The Texan capital is also home to the American Poster Institute, which coordinates and organizes the conventions.
The work includes posters for the bands Sonic Youth and The Melvins, with one section devoted to each of the most important artists: Art Chantry, Coop (Chris Cooper), Mat Daly, Justin Hampton, Derek Hess, Frank Kozik, Dan MacAdam aka Crosshair, Tara McPherson, Jay Ryan, and the artists’ collective Fort Thunder. The exhibition was developed in cooperation with the Hamburg gallery Feinkunst Krüger, the Flatstock Poster Convention and the Reeperbahn Festival.
Flatstock 48 SXSW Austin Convention Center Austin , TX Opens March 19, 2015 Runs through March 21, 2015
Presented by the American Poster Institute (API), Flatstock 48 will display the works of the world's top gig poster artists. The show runs March 19-21 and will feature posters of varying styles, colors and techniques for sale by the very artists who created them.
The American Poster Institute is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to serving the poster artist community and promoting the art form. The Flatstock shows provide the American Poster Institute with a way to present poster artists collectively while showcasing the breadth of styles they represent.
The best concert posters have always captured both the essence of the music they promoted and the spirit of the time in which they were produced. Flatstock provides an ongoing series of opportunities to see fine poster art in person and to meet the artists who created it.
Free and Open to the Public!
Thursday, March 19th to Saturday, March 21st 11:00 am to 6:00 pm each day

Message in a Bottle explores the romantic history of blindly throwing messages to sea, leaving it to the hands of fate to deliver them to their intended recipient. Visitors are invited into a maritime ship chandlery, where contemporary artists have created their own message for the ages, captured inside bottles and waiting to be unlocked by their new owners. A special animation by Beau Stanton will further the seafaring fantasy.

I will be a special guest at this years event! Below is my schedule... and I'll most likely be at my booth the rest of the time.
AIGA Austin Design Ranch is an intimate, three-day, hands-on, workshop-driven design retreat in a rustic setting on the banks of the Guadalupe River.
Design Ranch isn’t one of those slide-and-lecture “big conferences,” it’s about putting down your mouse, getting your hands dirty and reviving your creative spirit. Our goal is not to teach you the latest fad or tech trick. What your clients and businesses need more than ever is you, at full creative power, doing your best work, so we’d rather you go home with something a little more timeless: a fire in your belly and a fresh take on design that can only be achieved by unplugging and gettin’ a little dirty.
The 150 folks lucky enough to attend will find themselves rubbing elbows with well-known workshop leaders and fellow attendees in a way most conferences can’t deliver—next to the campfire, out on the dance floor, and in unique, hands-on workshops.
I am so excited to be a guest at this years event, and to put together a fun workshop for it.

Eric Firestone is pleased to announce a summer group show “Nose Job,” curated by Carlo McCormick, to open July 15the and runs through August 21th in East Hampton. With a sly wink to Warhol’s iconic early Sixties image “Before and After” in which he appropriated and altered a plastic surgery ad for a nose job to comment on our culture’s ideals of beauty, Nose Job is in fact a tribute to the old vernacular folk-art form of nose art dating from both World Wars in which soldiers painted images and slogans on the noses of military planes.
Firestone and McCormick began the project by scouring the ‘bone yards’ of the Arizona desert where the old disused airplanes of America’s air force go to die and collected a wide range of nose cones from these planes in various shapes and sizes. The pair invited an array of contemporary artists to transform these curious relics into objects of art. What started as a mere whim found deep resonance in the creative community as many artists have their own associations and inspirations from the legacy of nose art.

The artists will try to materialize a intangible world, shapeless, that seems to be unreal, just because it cannot be perceived by the eyes, and that can be reach only through a sense, a universe that is fragile and intense, persistent and intangible, that Proust-talking-holds immense building of Memory on their almost impalpable drops."

‘Never Judge...?’ A Group Exhibition In Association with Penguin Books 3rd - 19th December
Never judge a book by the cover. The age old proverb is easier said than done, when choosing a read who can't be swayed by good cover art, the cover after all has the job of explaining thousands of words in an instant. Think of the classic covers that grace the jackets of thousands of books and the names of the truly great artists that have put their artwork to novels, creating iconic classic covers for these classic books, but is the book cover dying? With the advent of the iPad it's now questionable how long the printed novel and its cover will be around, just like the album cover, it'll be resigned to a thumbnail in iTunes.
StolenSpace in association with Penguin plan to celebrate the art of the book cover with a show titled ' Never Judge?’ this December.

In conjunction with Baby Tattooville 2008, Beyond Baby Tattooville presents artwork by over a dozen artists loosely tied together in the ambiguously-named "pop surrealism" or "lowbrow" art movement. This originally underground art movement formed in Southern California in the 70s and 80s and has roots and influences from punk music, comics such as R. Crumb, hot rod art, and various other underground subcultures, in addition to surrealism and figurative art. After being largely ignored by many traditional fine art institutions, including museums, this movement has recently been getting its due. Some of the most notable artists of this scene are a part of the show, including Glenn Barr, Dave Cooper, Bob Dob, Joe Ledbetter, Shag, Amy Sol, Michael Whelan, Tara McPherson, Lola and many more. In addition to the exhibition, the Baby Tattooville 2008 event will be held at the Mission Inn Oct 3 - 5. More information can be found online at www.babytattooville.com. A reception will be held on October 4, with many of the artists in attendance. This exhibit is a partnership between RAM and Bob Self of Baby Tattoo along with Billy Shire Fine Arts in Los Angeles.
Tara McPherson will not be attending this event in person.
I will be a guest speaker in this years ICON 5 in NYC.

Martha Rich with
Tara McPherson, Jordin Isip and Jonathan Levine
The increasing popularity and success of the small gallery has created a need for new, affordable and original art. Exhibiting in a gallery is a great way for illustrators to expand beyond traditional forms of illustration and generate additional income. How do you take that next step into the exhibiting world and get your work out of the studio and on the gallery wall? Illustrator Martha Rich questions gallery curator Jonathan Levine and illustrators Jordin Isip and Tara McPherson about the challenges and successes connected to their gallery experiences. Curious about showing your work in galleries, curating your own shows or developing a new line of revenue and expanding your creativity? This session is for you.

Illustration In The Age Of Anxiety Parsons The New School
Opens November 10, 2007
Parsons The New School for Design Illustration Department presents a new mini symposium focused on how the current cultural climate is affecting the field of illustration. The event, “Illustration in the Age of Anxiety,” will take place on November 10 at The New School, 55 West 13 Street, at 3pm, and is free and open to the public.
‘Illustration in the Age of Anxiety’ looks at how illustration handles times of unease and anxiety in our culture, from the atomic anxiety of the 1950s to today's wars and upheaval. “Illustration in the Age of Anxiety” will feature three conversations lead by prominent and accomplished writers illustrators.
"Shaky Line, Shaky Times: Ed Koren and Ed Sorel in Conversation with Dan Nadel" will feature master satirical illustrators Ed Koren and Ed Sorel who will discuss their famously anxious drawing styles and nearly half century' worth of drawings for hundreds of books and publications.
"Ben Katchor: Reading in Public" will feature MacArthur-award winning graphic novelist Ben Katchor, who joins Parsons as a full time faculty member this fall, as he discusses the difficulties of reading in an uncertain time.
Pop-gothic artists Camille Rose Garcia and Tara McPherson will talk to Guarnaccia about drawing on the dark side of life in the final session of the symposium, "A Light in the Dark: Camille Rose Garcia and Tara McPherson in conversation with Steven Guarnaccia."
Nora Krug, another new fulltime faculty member in the illustration department, will deliver the introductory remarks and introduce the panels.
The event will be held in the Theresa Lang Community and Student Center at The New School, 55 West 13th Street, 2nd floor, from 3-7 pm and is free and open to the public.

Baby Tattooville provides a unique opportunity for a small group of celebrated artists and serious collectors to spend time together in a relaxed yet creatively stimulating environment. Without the time constraints of a typical personal appearance, or the crowd control issues of a high profile art event, artists and collectors will have a weekend-long opportunity to discuss and explore their mutual interests. Think of Baby Tattooville as an innovative and exclusive community built around the lifestyle of the artist and the artistry of the collector.

American Institute of Graphic Arts New York presents PrettyUgly
PrettyUgly looks at the work of three young illustrators, Aya Kakeda, Tara McPherson and Souther Salazar, exponents of the so-called New Weird America aesthetic. Delicate and deranged, homespun and psychedelic, they are confidently situated among the high/low, illustration/design/art pigeonholes. And they seem to have found their place in the commercial environment without any obvious loss to the soul of their work.
Moderated by Laurie Rosenwald.
