SAN DIEGO COMIC CON - PART 2
And the adventure continues!!
More sweet tattoos!
I had to finally take a photo with the Elvis Stormtrooper!
The Dark R2-D2 at the Dark Horse booth. Super cool.
Then we went to the Kaiju Big Battle! I have to say it was one of my favorite things from Comic Con! Mosters, wrestling. Fucking awesome. Oh another awesome thing was meeting Jason Reitman (Juno director). He was rad!
Some sweet tricks baby!
One more tattoo of Ion :)
Then the week of super hard work and lots of parties ended and I took the train up to Los Angeles. Such a nice view traveling right along the ocean.
I ran into my comic writer friend Josh Dysart
at the train station and we all got to travel up to LA together. Good conversations!
Me and my neice Malia.
Then while up in LA I went to go sign a bunch of new gicleés at my printers in Santa Monica and checked out some matte varnish samples of their prints. They all look great but I think I'll stick with gloss.
Then I got to signing and numbering the new Bunny Rider
print! These look sweet!
We found this cool store that's like a museum with loads of cool stuff inside. Neato. I want my house to be like that.
Then we went to the Travis Louie signing! His new book is awesome and comes with really neat stories to go along with his paintings. Go buy it
Then we checked out the rest of the art show... some really funny cool stuff in the gallery.
A photo, of a photo, of a wall. His hand, her pussy, how fun! I second that emotion.
My friend Jessicka's
bunny ring! Sweeeeeet.
Me Tomi and Jessicka. The ladies the ladies!
Angelique, bass player for the Hangmen, stopped by to say hello too!
Then we had some yummy mexican food at Malo. Tomi, Holly, Jon Schnepp (director of Metalocalypse
!!! Bruuuutal...) me, and Hannah.
The Elliot Smith wall in LA...
So that was my week long California adventure... super cool. I'm not hating LA so much anymore. And I got to see my Dad. Cool!
SAN DIEGO COMIC CON - PART 1
San Deigo... Oh what an adventure! Every year it gets crazier and crazier! I flew in from Lisbon and had some awesome jetlag, but there was so much happening it kept me going strong!
My friend Kristin came down from Portland to nerd out, here she is with my awesome assistant Sara Antoinette Martin
Saw some amazing new tattoos people have gotten of my work.
Neat idea to combine my Mr. Wiggles with Joe Ledbetters
Kristin with my neice Malia, who helps me run the booth.
Hanging at the Hilton with Jonathan Cathey
(toy maker), Steven Daily
(art maker), Jeremy Atkins (Dark Horse PR maker), and Sara.
The con Hall... it's sooooo big!
Eatin foods with Steven Manale
The feast!!! With Steven and Tomi! Daniel Zana
and Gary Baseman
Some neat Camille Rose Garcia
Steven and I stopped by to visit Jeff Soto
at the Mark Murphy
booth. So rad to see friends doing so good. Jeff and I went to Art Center
Chillin with Mark Ryden
at the Baby Tattoo
party. (On a side note I'll be hanging out at the Baby Tattooville event in October this year!)
Then we went to see GWAR at the Vice party!! I hadn't seen them in forever and its good to know they still rock! It's all still a bloody mess!!!
Went to the Mark Murphy curated art show and saw some really cool paintings! This ones by Marco Wagner
Steven Daily painting.
Awesome Brenden Danielsson
painting! I love his work. Bob Dob
Erik Mark Sandberg awesomeness. Kent Williams
and Martha Rich
. Travis Louis
, James Jean
, and David Mack
Caution for too much party! They kept stealing things from the hotel and putting them in the room, I think in the end end they had like 5 homer simpson signs as well.
My friend Chris with my Geleskin
EUROPE BOOK TOUR WEEK SIX
After my amazing week in Barcelona, I was off to my last date of the Europe part of the book tour... Lisbon! I got a chance to practice my bad Portuguese to warm up for the Brazil Tour. I cant believe all the amazing people I've seen over the last month and a half, and to think it's not even over yet. So many more activities!
The view from the house I was staying at.
Graffiti on the way to the beach from the train... Dont eff with him, he'll win the staring contest.
Mr. Wiggles loves the beach. Bet you wouldn't have guessed that. He's just nervous because even though it was like 85 out, the water was sooo so cold.
Adults still like to get buried in the sand too!
I took the craziest cat photo... This belongs to the owner of Kingpin Books
that was hosting my signing. Oh hai!
After a couple awesome relaxing beach days, it was signing time at Kingpin!
Why yes, we all color co-ordinated on purpose.
Drawin' in a sketchy book.
Then it was out to celebrate with the owner and all his friends to drink some black vodka. Actually I had Caipirinhas, but a couple of them had the black vodka. I dont like it cause it turns your whole mouth purple. You look like one of those crazy kids that just had a big ass blue candy and is oozing blue sugar out their mouth. Except you're a grown ass person. And drunk. Gross.
Some crazy portuguese manequins.
Why is everything fisheye awesome? I want a whole wall with these mirrors!
I walked into this gallery and found some really cool drawings by Simona Accattatis. Kind of awesome right?
Here is a wall sticker in the owner of Kingpins house, by Cameron Stewart
. I thought it looked so awesome all big on the wall like that. Rad.
The day I left I got sent a pic of my flying bunny playing with his food again! Then I was off to San Diego for Comic Con madness! Stay tuned!!
EUROPE BOOK TOUR WEEK FIVE
BARCELONA, BARCELONA, BARCELONA, (that's supposed to make you magically go back there right??) Well needless to say it's an amazing city, full of amazing people
Here are the new works on paper i did for the exhibition, it was fun working freer and faster. I painted all of these while traveling the past month. A little here, a little there in each city.
Here's a full view of Iguapop Gallery
who hosted the exhibition and signing. This economy is quite scary right now, so I was a bit nervous. But everything sold out before the opening even started, yay!! 3 paintings, 3 drawings, and 6 paintings on paper. Unfortunately I was a flake and was distracted and I didnt take any photos of the opening night... anyone have any please email me! But this show was really fun and all the people that came were fantastic... saw a lot of old friends there!
Here's Pepa Prieto
from Madrid setting up her installation. She had the gallery in the second space and her work was waaay cool. Wish we had hung out even more.
Then it was beach time! The week prior was so much work finishing everything for the show, half in Rome and half in Barcelona. I still even had 2 days of work to do on one of the oil paintings before the opening (shhhh...dont tell anyone it was wet at the show).
I love lamp.
Then my friends in Mastodon
came into town with some days off around their show, so we hung tough. Here's Darren, who's Troy's little brother, and is their main tech guy. We all got lost trying to find Miss Vans birthday party up on Montjuïc. But as always when you wander, it's an adventure!
So we stopped to take some made in Barcelona pics! Por qué no?
Then we stumbled upon this amazing bar that served their shots in chilled glasses in a rack, and they just set the bottles of whatever you asked for on the bar, and you basically make your own party. The guy didnt give a fuck! Funnest thing, but dangerous...
I love that Darren got tucked into bed.
Then it was off to the Forum the next afternoon to see some metal metal mania! Here's the dudes warming up backstage.
And let the rock begin! Mastodon!
The next band was Down
, which are members of Crowbar, Corrosion of Conformity, EyeHateGod, and Pantera. I had never heard them before but it was super rad.
Brent, Lael and me sidestage watching Down.
Then it was time for Slipknot... I have to say I dont like them, BUT I had to stay to watch the drums go upside down.
Almost time for Metallica!! Me Bill Kelliher and Lael waiting for the magic!
Watching Metallica from the VIP above the sound booth. Best freaking spot ever to see a band like that!!
Hangin afterwards deciding what to do....
...swimming in the ocean behind the forum!! Was super rad and warm!
Cool art by Ian Stevenson in the house of the gallery director of Iguapop.
Then the next night I hung out with Miss Van and went to a fun BBQ on a rooftop.
Then we took a cat for walk!
My friend Jordan's awesome neck tattoo.
Then the next morning Miss Van had to bury a pigeon that decided to take 4 days to slowly die on her tiny balcony. She made a little coffin with tissue paper for it in preperation.
So we walked over the the modern art museum, she brought the headstone she made for it, and we put it to sleep forever surrounded by art and love...
EUROPE BOOK TOUR WEEK FOUR
The adventures continue with my arrival in Zürich! Where I got picked up at the airport by a collector of mine, Alfonso Siegrist, who is one of the owners of basically every cool ass bar and music venue in Zürich.
Landing in pretty pretty Zürich, but I was bummed cause it was cloudy and I didnt get to see the Alps like the first time I flew into there, but I felt their presence!
Wierdest airline logo EVER. These were on all the planes big as billboards. Flies? Really?
I went straight to dinner with our friend Martin from Celtic Frost
, his girlfriend, Lurker who organized the Zürich signing, and Alfonso.
This only a tiny part of Alfonso's collection. Miss Van
, Sylvia Ji
, Camille Rose Garcia
, and one of my new peices from Choque Cultural
Then it was off to Perla Mode to set up the show. Lurker had a really cool idea to make real Mr. Wiggle balloons!! Here's the bag full of deflated lil dudes.
I stuffed a bunch of them in my purse so I can make adventure photos now! What would Mr. Wiggles do?
Amazing flowers... anyone know what they're called?
And then it begins! Party time excellent!
Two awesome chicks!
After we closed down... I love this old dude.
Me with the sound guy and Randy, the singer from Lamb of God at one of Alfonso's bars. At the signing some of the stage crew guys from Lamb of God came in, they had a day off there and had no idea I was having the event. It was held in the red light district where all the bars are, so they were just cruisin around and stumbled upon it. So later on we rocked it for a lil bit! Rad. I love randomness.
Nice and Easy... that's his style.
I love Europe.
Kick ass moped!
Then it was off to Rome for the signing at Dorothy Circus Gallery
. Heres a cool wall piece by Koralie
I'm ready to go! Let the people in!
This is part of the owner of Dorothy Circus's house, loads of paintings hanging everywhere... Travis Louis, Esao Andrews, me, and on the back wall are Marion Peck and Mark Ryden (a few prints and an original of his too). The rest of the house had Miss Van, Jonathan Viner and more...Nice!
Then it was out with my friend Karen who used to work for the gallery for some fun adventures. We ended up going to see some bands play at this bar that was right next to the Vatican. It's just crazy to think you're so close to the Pope! Oh if he only knew...
Then we ran across some Italian military guards and they let me take a picture with them. I guess normally they're real assholes, but for some reason they liked me... heh...Those are some big guns. Yeah!
Best name ever.
Then I got asked to do a live painting at one the museums in Rome, The National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo
. It actually connects with a bridge from The Vatican, and the Pope used to flee back and forth from the Castle and the Vatican in times of danger. Hey Pope... how's it goin... say hi to your mother for me.
Getting to the terrace of the Museum...
The view!!! I was about to pee my pants at this moment in awe of what I was asked to do. It was just breathtaking.
Here's the DJ setting up for the evenings festivities. Thats Vatician City and St. Peter's in the background.
I feel valiant! Note my Wolves in the Throne Room
All these awesome photos are by Alberto Molinari
With Julie Kogler who curated the event and Alexandra Mazzanti from Dorothy Circus.
I can't believe I painted this in 4 hours! When I saw the size of the canvas they brought me I was a bit daunted, as I dont paint that fast! But it worked out totally perfect, it's nice to be challenged with a time constraint to see what you can accomplish.
There were a lot of people there throughout the evening, but there were some fans in particular that stayed from the very very beginning to the very very end, they were super awesome and I just want to say a big thanks to them!!
